CAESAREA, Israel, November 8, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Gardia Medical’s wire independent Embolic Protection System was recently used in live case demonstrations at TCT 2010, the 22nd annual Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics Conference in September, and VIVA 2010, the Vascular Interventional Advances Meeting in October of this year. The system was used during a renal stenting case and a lower limb intervention procedure respectively, performed by Drs Scheinert, Schmidt and Braunlich from Park Hospital in Leipzig, Germany. Earlier this year, the same team did a live carotid stenting case demonstration at LINC 2010, the Leipzig Interventional Course.
Gardia Medical has developed an innovative distal filter Embolic Protection System that seamlessly integrates with standard workflow. This is the first and only wire-independent embolic protection system that uses a single guide wire – any guide wire of choice – throughout the entire procedure.
The cases were highly successful demonstrations of the ease of use, excellent deliverability and performance of the device. Physicians retained total flexibility in wire selection and complete control over filter positioning, enabling embolic protection in challenging and complex anatomies.
Dr Dierk Scheinert, head department of angiology, Park-Krankenhaus Hospital comment: “This is a very exciting device, completely independent system that locks in place on any guide wire. This system gives us the opportunity to use embolic protection with ease and comfort and most importantly in cases we have not been able to use until today…”
Chen Barak, General Manager of Gardia added: "Embolic protection devices are known to reduce the incidence of embolic complications during catheter-based procedures. Physicians using EPD’s today face the challenge of using system-dedicated guide wires which can be difficult or impossible to maneuver, resulting in more complex and lengthy procedures. Our product provides the physician with the freedom to choose any standard guide wire. The system is designed for use in a variety of interventional applications and has been demonstrated to date in more than 50 cases in carotid, renal, SVG and PAD interventions.”
